Cloudways vs SiteGround 2024 – Don’t waste your money

Last updated on November 19th, 2024 at

A few months ago, my friend wanted to switch his web hosting provider. He was thinking about going with SiteGround, but since I’ve been using Cloudways for a while, I suggested he try it instead.

We ended up having a little debate about which one is better. So, to help clear things up i wrote this Cloudways vs Siteground comparison, I decided to compare Cloudways and SiteGround based on our real experiences. Both my friend and I will share what it’s like using these two hosting providers, and I’ll explain what I’ve learned from hosting my own websites with them.

I’ve been working with web hosting for years, so I’ve tested a lot of different providers. In this post, I’ll keep things simple and share my honest thoughts in a way that’s easy to understand—whether you’re new to web hosting or have some experience. Let’s dive in and see how Cloudways and SiteGround compare!

Cloudways vs SiteGround – Quick Overview

When comparing Cloudways and SiteGround, Cloudways is the better choice for performance and flexibility. Here’s why:

Cloudways:

  • Fast speeds with NVMe SSDs: Cloudways uses NVMe SSDs (a type of high-speed storage) to make your website load faster. Faster loading means a better experience for your visitors, which can also help with SEO.
  • Cloudflare Enterprise CDN: Cloudways offers a powerful Content Delivery Network (CDN) through Cloudflare Enterprise. This helps deliver your website content quickly to users all over the world, reducing load times and improving site performance.
  • Customizable cloud hosting plans: Cloudways lets you pick from different cloud providers (like AWS, Google Cloud, and DigitalOcean), so you can choose the best option based on your needs and budget. Plus, there are no high renewal fees, meaning what you pay is more predictable.

SiteGround:

  • User-friendly features: SiteGround is great if you’re looking for something easy to use. It includes features like built-in email hosting, so you can set up professional email addresses with your domain (e.g., [email protected]). It also offers solid backup options, keeping your website’s data safe with regular backups.
  • Slower performance: While SiteGround is a solid option for beginners, its performance isn’t as fast as Cloudways. This can lead to slower loading times for your website, especially during traffic spikes.
  • Higher renewal rates: SiteGround offers good deals when you first sign up, but its renewal rates are higher. That means you might end up paying more once your initial term ends.

Conclusion:

Cloudways is ideal if you need a fast, high-performance website that can scale as you grow. It’s perfect for businesses or websites that require speed and flexibility. SiteGround, on the other hand, is great for beginners or anyone who wants an easy-to-use platform with built-in features like email hosting, but it’s not as fast or flexible as Cloudways.

So, if speed and customization are your top priorities, Cloudways is the way to go. If you prefer simplicity and built-in services, SiteGround might be a better fit.

Overall Winner: Cloudways

Why Choose Cloudways Over SiteGround?

  1. Faster Speed
Cloudways is faster than SiteGround. You can check the speed of our website on GTMetrix, and Cloudways loads much quicker.
  2. Better Performance
Cloudways uses dedicated server resources, so it handles high traffic better than SiteGround’s shared hosting. With SiteGround, performance can slow down during busy times.
  3. Free Trial & Flexible Plans
Cloudways offers a free trial with no credit card needed and lets you pay monthly. SiteGround doesn’t offer a trial and locks you into longer-term plans.
  4. Cloud Hosting Choices
Cloudways lets you choose from three cloud hosting services (like AWS, Google Cloud, or DigitalOcean). This means you can pick what works best for you. SiteGround doesn’t offer that flexibility.
  5. Easy-to-Use Control Panel
Cloudways has a simple, custom control panel to manage your server. SiteGround uses its own Site Tools, which can be harder for beginners.
  6. Global Servers
Cloudways has servers in 41 locations around the world, so your site can load faster no matter where your visitors are. SiteGround has fewer server locations.
  7. Scalability
With Cloudways, you can easily upgrade your server if your site gets more traffic. SiteGround doesn’t let you scale as easily.
  8. More Features
Cloudways offers helpful features like easy access to .htaccess files, simple cache clearing, and staging environments to test your site before changes go live. SiteGround doesn’t provide all these features.
  9. More Storage
Cloudways’ $80 plan gives you 160GB of storage, while SiteGround only offers 40GB in a similar plan.
  10. No Price Hikes
Cloudways doesn’t have high renewal fees—you pay monthly. SiteGround’s renewal prices are higher after your first term.
  11. Better Support
Cloudways offers support through email, live chat, and a helpful community. They also have live webinars. SiteGround has support, but it’s not as extensive as Cloudways.

Why Choose SiteGround Over Cloudways?

  1. Email Hosting
SiteGround gives you unlimited email accounts, forwarders, and auto-responders for free. Cloudways doesn’t offer email hosting.
  2. Free Daily Backups
SiteGround’s “GrowBig” and “GoGeek” plans include free daily backups, saving 30 copies of your site. Cloudways charges extra for backups.
  3. Easy Setup
SiteGround is easier to set up, especially for beginners. You don’t need technical skills, and it’s simple to add a new domain or connect an existing one. With Cloudways, you need to buy your domain from a third-party service and may run into some technical setup issues.

Winner – Cloudways:

After testing both Cloudways and SiteGround, here’s my take on which one offers the best value for your money.

Cloudways: Flexible and Affordable

Cloudways starts at $11/month and gives you:

  • 1 GB RAM
  • 25 GB SSD Storage
  • 1 TB bandwidth
  • Free SSL, CDN, and managed backups

What I love about Cloudways is that you only pay for what you use, and there are no surprise price hikes when it’s time to renew. Plus, you get great performance, and you can scale up as your site grows. It’s a solid choice for small to medium-sized websites and even larger ones in the future.

SiteGround: Affordable But Higher Renewal Prices

SiteGround starts at $3.95/month for their StartUp Plan, which is great for small sites. It includes:

  • 1 Website
  • 10 GB Storage
  • Free SSL, CDN, and daily backups

While it’s affordable at first, SiteGround’s renewal prices can go up, which might catch you by surprise.

Why Cloudways Wins

Overall, Cloudways offers more flexibility and better value for the money. It’s perfect if you want performance without worrying about price hikes. SiteGround is cheaper initially, but Cloudways is better for long-term growth.

Final Recommendation

If you want a flexible, scalable, and cost-effective hosting solution, Cloudways is the winner. It gives you more for your money and is better for growing websites.

Cloudways vs SiteGround: Ease of Use and Setup

Cloudways: Clean, Custom Control Panel, but Some Complexity

Cloudways uses its own custom control panel, which I found to be clean and easy to navigate. Setting up a website and installing an SSL certificate was quick and simple. However, I did encounter a small challenge when it came to pointing my domain to the server. Since Cloudways doesn’t handle domain registration or offer name servers, I had to manually configure DNS settings through my domain registrar. It wasn’t difficult, but it did require a little extra effort.

Cloudways main account dashboard and server window

To install WordPress, I just went to the “Applications” section, clicked “+ Add Application,” and selected WordPress. The process was nearly a one-click installation, which was great. While there aren’t many options for applications, WordPress is one of the most popular, so it’s easy to get started.

For SSL setup, Cloudways made it simple. I went to the SSL management area, selected Let’s Encrypt (the free SSL option), and clicked “Install.” Within minutes, my website was secured, which gave me peace of mind.

Cloudways SSL management and installing free SSL

One downside to Cloudways is that they don’t offer email hosting. They partner with Rackspace for email services, which costs $1 per mailbox per month. Setting it up was easy, but it’s an additional cost that you should consider.

SiteGround: User-Friendly and Quick Setup

Setting up SiteGround

SiteGround offers an incredibly user-friendly experience. The setup process is straightforward—just pick a plan, follow the simple instructions, and you’re good to go. They use their own control panel called Site Tools, which is clean, modern, and perfect for beginners.

Installing WordPress on SiteGround is quick and easy. Their Starter Sites plugin helps you choose themes and pre-configured website features with just a few clicks, making it ideal for anyone new to web hosting.

Overall, SiteGround’s interface is designed to be intuitive, even for those without any technical experience, and it provides everything you need to get your site up and running smoothly.

Conclusion: Ease of Use

Both Cloudways and SiteGround have user-friendly dashboards, but SiteGround makes things easier for beginners with its simplified setup and built-in tools. Cloudways is great if you’re comfortable with a custom control panel, but be ready for a bit more manual work when it comes to things like domain management.

Speed Test Results: Cloudways vs SiteGround

We ran speed tests on both Cloudways and SiteGround to see how they perform under real-world conditions. Speed is crucial for your website’s success, as faster websites keep visitors happy, improve SEO rankings, and reduce bounce rates. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of our test results:

GTMetrix Score

GTMetrix is a popular tool used to measure website performance. It gives an overall score based on how fast the website loads and how optimized it is for speed.

  • Cloudways Score: 99%
  • SiteGround Score: 94%

cloudways-speed-performance

siteground-speed

What does this mean?

  • The higher the GTMetrix score, the better the overall performance of the website in terms of speed and optimization.
  • Cloudways scored 99%, which means it is very well-optimized and loads almost perfectly. A score this high indicates that Cloudways uses advanced optimizations like PHP-FPM, HTTP/2, and a robust server setup that significantly improve performance.
  • SiteGround scored 94%, which is still good but slightly lower than Cloudways. This means SiteGround is optimized well, but it isn’t as fast as Cloudways, likely due to factors like cPanel and shared hosting infrastructure.

Page Load Time

Page load time is the most important factor for user experience. It measures how long it takes for a web page to fully load after someone clicks on it.

SiteGround website loading speed test
SiteGround loading speed test

cloudways-speed-performance

  • Cloudways Load Time: 0.9 seconds
  • SiteGround Load Time: 2.4 seconds

What does this mean?

  • Cloudways took 0.9 seconds to load, which is extremely fast. Research shows that websites that load in under 1 second tend to have higher user engagement and better conversion rates. The faster the load time, the quicker users can access your content, and the less likely they are to leave due to slow performance.
  • SiteGround took 2.4 seconds to load, which is still acceptable but slower compared to Cloudways. For modern websites, it’s ideal to aim for under 2 seconds, and with SiteGround, you’re slightly over that. This delay could lead to visitors leaving your site sooner, which can hurt your user experience and SEO rankings.

Here is another Experiences of users migrate from SiteGround to Cloudways

Cloudways is built for speed, using advanced features to optimize performance:

  • PHP 8: The latest PHP version speeds up website processing, making your site load faster.
Benefit: Faster load times = better user experience and improved SEO.
  • HTTP/2: Allows faster communication between the server and browser by sending multiple requests at once.
Benefit: Faster data transfer, especially for websites with many images and scripts.
  • Pre-configured PHP-FPM: Optimizes PHP processes to reduce website load time.
Benefit: Faster site performance, especially during high traffic.
  • High-Performance Cloud Servers: Works with top providers like DigitalOcean and Vultr, built for speed and scalability.
Benefit: Can handle more traffic and deliver faster speeds, even during traffic spikes.

SiteGround Speed Performance

SiteGround offers good performance with some optimizations:

  • SSD Drives: Faster than traditional HDDs, improving data retrieval.
Benefit: Faster load times for a snappier user experience.

Benefit: Easy to use but not as fast as custom panels like Cloudways’.
  • 99.90% Uptime Guarantee: Your site will be up and running most of the time, though Cloudways offers 99.99% uptime.
Benefit: Higher uptime means more reliability for visitors.

Uptime: Cloudways vs SiteGround

When choosing a web host, uptime is just as important as speed. Uptime is the amount of time your website is up and running without any interruptions. You want your site to be available to visitors all the time, so let’s compare how Cloudways and SiteGround perform in this area.

Cloudways Uptime

cloudways-uptime-performance

From my experience with Cloudways, I’ve found that their uptime is excellent. They offer a 100% uptime guarantee, meaning your site should stay online without any issues. They also use auto-healing technology, which automatically fixes any server problems and restarts the server if something goes wrong. This makes Cloudways very reliable.

On top of that, Cloudways uses Google Cloud for hosting. Google Cloud is known for its strong, fast, and secure servers, which helps Cloudways maintain a high level of uptime and keeps your site running smoothly.

SiteGround Uptime

siteground-uptime-performance

SiteGround is also a solid choice when it comes to uptime. They guarantee 99-100% uptime. Like Cloudways, SiteGround uses auto-healing technology, which helps fix server issues automatically. However, in my experience, some users have reported brief moments of downtime every now and then. While these downtimes are rare, they can happen from time to time.

Verdict: Cloudways vs SiteGround Uptime

Both Cloudways and SiteGround are reliable when it comes to keeping your site online. But Cloudways takes the lead with its 100% uptime guarantee and auto-healing technology, which ensures fewer interruptions.

SiteGround also offers great uptime, but there have been occasional reports of downtime, which puts it just behind Cloudways in this area.

If you want the most reliable uptime and want to be sure your site is always online, I’d recommend Cloudways.

Security Features

When it comes to keeping your website safe, understanding how different security features work and why they matter can make a huge difference. Below, I’ll break down each key security feature offered by Cloudways and SiteGround, explaining how they work and what benefits they provide for your website.

Cloudways Security Features

1. Regular OS Patches

  • What It Is: Cloudways automatically applies updates and patches to the server’s operating system (OS). This helps prevent any vulnerabilities that hackers might exploit.
  • Why It’s Important: Keeping the OS up to date is crucial because outdated systems can have security holes. By patching these holes regularly, Cloudways ensures your server is protected from known exploits.
  • Benefit: You don’t have to worry about manually applying updates or patches, and your website stays protected against new security threats.

2. OS-Level Firewalls

  • What It Is: A firewall acts like a gatekeeper between your server and the internet. Cloudways uses OS-level firewalls to block malicious traffic from reaching your website.
  • Why It’s Important: The firewall helps prevent unauthorized access to your server and protects against cyber attacks, such as DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks or brute force attacks.
  • Benefit: By filtering out harmful traffic before it even reaches your server, your site is more secure and less likely to be attacked.

3. 1-Click Free SSL Certificates

  • What It Is: Cloudways offers free SSL certificates through Let’s Encrypt, which encrypts the data exchanged between your website and visitors. You can easily install an SSL with just one click.
  • Why It’s Important: SSL certificates ensure that all data sent between your site and users is encrypted, meaning it’s unreadable to anyone who might intercept it. This is especially important for protecting sensitive data like login information or credit card details.
  • Benefit: Having an SSL certificate is also a ranking factor for Google, so it helps your website’s SEO while providing users with trust signals (they’ll see a padlock icon in the browser bar).

4. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

  • What It Is: Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security when you log into your Cloudways account. After entering your password, you also need to verify your identity through a second method, like a code sent to your phone.
  • Why It’s Important: 2FA makes it harder for hackers to gain access to your account even if they manage to steal your password. Without the second factor (like your phone or email), they can’t log in.
  • Benefit: It’s a simple yet highly effective way to add an extra layer of protection to your account, making it much safer from unauthorized logins.

5. IP Whitelisting

  • What It Is: With IP whitelisting, Cloudways lets you control which IP addresses can access your server for activities like SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) or SSH (Secure Shell).
  • Why It’s Important: It restricts access to only trusted devices or networks. If someone tries to access your server from an unapproved IP, they won’t be able to connect, which blocks potential intruders.
  • Benefit: This provides extra control over who can access your server, preventing unauthorized access even if someone knows your credentials.

6. SafeUpdates

  • What It Is: SafeUpdates is a feature that lets you test software updates on a staging server before applying them to your live site. This ensures that any updates (plugins, themes, etc.) won’t break your site.
  • Why It’s Important: Updates are essential for security, but sometimes they can cause compatibility issues or conflicts with your website. SafeUpdates gives you a chance to test updates before pushing them live.
  • Benefit: It reduces the risk of downtime or site errors caused by faulty updates, keeping your website running smoothly and securely.

SiteGround Security Features

1. Regular Software Updates

  • What It Is: SiteGround ensures that all software, including server-side software (like the operating system) and popular applications (like WordPress), is regularly updated with the latest security patches.
  • Why It’s Important: Like Cloudways, keeping all software updated helps close security holes. Old, unpatched software can have vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit.
  • Benefit: SiteGround takes care of software updates, so you don’t have to worry about manually keeping everything secure.

2. Web Application Firewall (WAF)

  • What It Is: A Web Application Firewall is a filter that monitors and blocks malicious traffic that tries to interact with your website. SiteGround uses a WAF to protect your website from common attacks such as SQL injections and cross-site scripting (XSS).
  • Why It’s Important: The WAF helps protect your site from harmful visitors by blocking known attack methods before they can do any damage.
  • Benefit: It keeps your site safer from common hacking attempts and ensures the security of your data and visitors.

3. Virtual Patches

  • What It Is: When a security vulnerability is discovered, SiteGround uses virtual patches to protect your website even before an official fix is released. These patches act like temporary shields against threats.
  • Why It’s Important: Virtual patches can quickly address known vulnerabilities, so your site remains protected while waiting for a proper update.
  • Benefit: It’s an extra layer of security that keeps your website safe even if a bug or vulnerability is discovered and hasn’t been fully patched yet.

4. Data Access Restrictions

  • What It Is: SiteGround limits access to sensitive data to only trusted personnel. They also maintain logs of who has accessed what, for better security and monitoring.
  • Why It’s Important: Restricting data access helps protect sensitive information from unauthorized users, and logs provide a way to track access in case something goes wrong.
  • Benefit: It prevents internal security breaches and allows for better accountability and traceability.

Verdict: Cloudways vs. SiteGround Security

Both Cloudways and SiteGround offer solid security features, but after testing both, I find that Cloudways provides a more comprehensive set of security tools. Here’s why:

  • Cloudways gives you more advanced features like two-factor authentication, IP whitelisting, and SafeUpdates, which make it more hands-on when it comes to securing your website.
  • SiteGround provides strong basic security tools, but it doesn’t have the same level of customization or extra layers of protection as Cloudways.

If security is your top concern and you want more control and peace of mind, I’d recommend Cloudways. It goes above and beyond to ensure your website is safe from various threats, making it the better choice for anyone who values robust security.

Customer Support

When you’re running a website, good customer support is essential. Whether you’re having issues, setting up something new, or just need some help, it’s important to get quick and reliable assistance. Here’s a breakdown of my experiences with Cloudways and SiteGround customer support.

SiteGround Customer Support

Getting in touch with SiteGround’s support can be a bit frustrating. To start a chat, you have to go through their help center, where you’ll answer a few questions before you can reach live chat. This extra step can feel like a hassle, especially when you’re looking for quick help.

SiteGround - customer support 1

Once you do connect with an agent, though, the experience is usually positive. The support team is knowledgeable and can help with tasks like setting up WordPress or installing SSL certificates. However, the response times can be slow, sometimes taking up to an hour to get an answer, which can be frustrating if you need help fast.

SiteGround - customer support 2

Cloudways support - live chat 1

Overall, SiteGround offers solid support, but the process to get there can be a bit slow and complicated. If you’re not in a hurry, it’s a good experience, but you might find the delays annoying.

Cloudways Customer Support

My experience with Cloudways was much smoother. Getting in touch with their support team was simple and quick, with no extra steps involved. They offer live chat right away, so you can ask questions and get help without any delays.

Cloudways vs bluehost trustpilot review 2

Siteground vs cloudways support

The support team at Cloudways really stood out to me. They weren’t pushy and didn’t try to rush me into a purchase. Instead, they took the time to explain things clearly. For example, when I asked about improving my website’s performance, the agent walked me through the benefits of using a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to speed up my site globally. The support was detailed and showed that the team really knows their stuff.

Cloudways vs siteground support

I also appreciated that Cloudways explained exactly what kind of support I could expect, which gave me confidence in their service. Overall, the experience felt professional and trustworthy.

Knowledge Base

Both Cloudways and SiteGround have good knowledge bases that provide guides, tutorials, and answers to common questions. Whether you’re new to hosting or have some experience, you’ll be able to find plenty of helpful resources to guide you through setup, troubleshooting, and other tasks.

Verdict: Cloudways vs SiteGround Customer Support

SiteGround offers reliable support, but it can take some time to get in touch with an agent due to their process. Once you’re connected, the team is helpful, but response times can sometimes be slow.

Cloudways, on the other hand, provides a much quicker and easier support experience. The agents are professional, take the time to explain things clearly, and make sure you understand the solutions. I felt that Cloudways gave me real, helpful advice without rushing me or pushing me to make a purchase.

In my opinion, Cloudways wins when it comes to customer support. They provide a faster, more professional experience, making it easier to get the help you need. SiteGround is still a good option, but Cloudways is more streamlined and efficient.

Cloudways uses a custom control panel that is simple and user-friendly. It offers advanced features like server monitoring, easy CDN setup, server cloning, staging URLs, and team collaboration. It’s designed to be intuitive for beginners but also powerful for more advanced users.

SiteGround, on the other hand, has Site Tools, which provides detailed analytics like CPU usage, storage, and website performance. It also allows you to manage your account, access support, and upgrade your hosting plan easily.

Data Center Locations

Cloudways partners with top cloud providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, Google Cloud, Vultr, and Linode, giving you a variety of data center options around the world. This helps you choose a server location closest to your audience for faster website performance.

SiteGround has 6 data centers powered by Google Cloud in various global locations. This ensures your site will perform well, regardless of where your visitors are located.

CDN (Content Delivery Network)

Cloudways includes a built-in CDN powered by Cloudflare Enterprise, which has over 275 locations worldwide. This means your website’s content is delivered faster to users, no matter where they are.

SiteGround also provides a CDN with 10 global locations. While it’s effective, it doesn’t have the same wide coverage as Cloudways’ CDN.

Backups

Cloudways charges $0.33 per GB for backups but offers automatic backups to an external storage network. This might add an extra cost, but it ensures your data is securely backed up and easy to manage.

SiteGround offers free automatic daily backups on all plans. You can access up to 30 recent backups, and restoring them is free, making it a straightforward option for users who need reliable and easy backup management.

Security

Cloudways takes security seriously, offering features like dedicated firewalls, free SSL certificates through Let’s Encrypt, IP whitelisting, regular security patches, two-factor authentication, and bot protection to protect your site from DDoS and brute force attacks.

SiteGround also provides strong security, with a custom web application firewall, an AI Anti-Bot system, Let’s Encrypt SSL, and account isolation using Linux containers for extra protection against threats.

Final Thoughts

Both Cloudways and SiteGround offer great hosting features, but they shine in different areas. Cloudways is a strong choice if you want global performance and fast content delivery, thanks to its extensive data center locations and Cloudflare CDN. On the other hand, SiteGround is perfect for users who prioritize easy backup management and robust security features. Depending on your needs, both are excellent hosting options.

Facebook Feedback – Cloudways vs. SiteGround

There have been concerns about SiteGround’s staff in Facebook groups like WordPress Speed Up, where it looks like they are deleting negative comments and promoting their own hosting. This makes it harder to have honest discussions. Some people have also said that SiteGround threatened legal action against negative reviews, which creates a fear of speaking out. On the other hand, Cloudways is more transparent and encourages open conversations, without trying to silence critics.Wordpress speed up admin hristo

Cloudways Pros

1. Faster Performance with NVMe SSDs: Cloudways uses NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSDs for storage, which are much faster than regular SSDs. This means your website loads quicker, providing a better experience for visitors.

2. Offers Cloud Hosting with Cloudflare Enterprise Integration: Cloudways provides cloud hosting and includes Cloudflare Enterprise for free. This helps speed up your website by caching your content and delivering it from servers closer to your visitors worldwide.

3. Generally More Cost-Effective: Cloudways often offers better pricing compared to other hosts, especially for the level of performance and flexibility it provides. You get more value for your money.

4. Less Likely to Experience CPU-related Issues: Cloudways’ cloud hosting setup minimizes the chances of running into performance issues related to the CPU. This means your website runs smoother, especially when traffic spikes.

5. Flexible Monthly Billing with No Yearly Contracts: You can pay for Cloudways hosting on a monthly basis without needing to commit to long-term contracts. This is perfect for those who prefer flexibility.

6. Choice of 5 Cloud Hosts (e.g., Vultr, DigitalOcean): Cloudways gives you the option to choose from 5 different cloud providers, such as DigitalOcean, Vultr, and AWS. You can pick the one that fits your needs and budget.

7. On-Demand Scaling for CPU, RAM, and Storage: If your website grows and needs more resources (like CPU or RAM), you can easily scale up without any downtime. This helps your site handle more traffic as it grows.

8. Access to 44 Data Centers Across Different Cloud Providers: Cloudways has data centers in 44 locations worldwide. This means your website can load faster for visitors around the globe because the data will be served from the nearest data center.

9. Great Support from Community Manager Muhammed Ansari: Cloudways offers great customer support, and their community manager, Muhammed Ansari, is well-known for helping users with quick and helpful responses.

Cloudways Cons

1. No Built-in File Manager: Cloudways doesn’t have its own file manager, which means you can’t directly manage files through the dashboard. You’ll need to use FTP or SFTP tools, which might be tricky for beginners.

2. Breeze Plugin May Not Meet Every User’s Needs: Cloudways offers the Breeze plugin for caching, which helps speed up your website. However, some users may find that it doesn’t meet all their performance needs, and they might need to use other caching plugins.

3. No Email Hosting (You Can Use Google Workspace): Cloudways doesn’t offer built-in email hosting, but you can easily set up email with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), which costs extra.

4. Setting Up Servers and Using the Custom Dashboard May Require Some Technical Knowledge: While Cloudways is user-friendly, it’s still more advanced than some other hosts. Setting up servers and using the custom dashboard might require some technical knowledge, which can be challenging for beginners.

SiteGround Pros

1. Includes Email Hosting Services: SiteGround provides email hosting, so you can create and manage email addresses directly through your hosting account. This is convenient for businesses that need custom email addresses (e.g., [email protected]).

2. Easy-to-Use, Beginner-Friendly Interface: SiteGround’s control panel, Site Tools, is very user-friendly. Even if you’re new to web hosting, you’ll find it easy to navigate and manage your website.

SiteGround Cons

1. Imposes CPU Limits: SiteGround limits the amount of CPU (processing power) your website can use, especially on shared hosting plans. If your website gets too much traffic, you may hit these limits and experience slower performance.

2. Slower Time to First Byte (TTFB): Time to First Byte (TTFB) is the time it takes for your browser to receive the first byte of data from the server. SiteGround’s TTFB is slower compared to some other hosts, which can make your website feel slower, especially for users in distant locations.

3. High Renewal Prices and Frequent Price Hikes: SiteGround often offers low prices when you first sign up, but these prices tend to increase significantly upon renewal. This means you might pay a lot more after your first term is over.

4. Requires Commitment to 1-3 Year Contracts: SiteGround usually requires you to commit to a 1-year or longer contract for hosting. This can be a downside if you want to test the service without a long-term commitment.

5. Limited CDN Capabilities: SiteGround offers a basic CDN (Content Delivery Network), but it only has 10 locations worldwide. This is fewer than some other providers, which can affect global website speed.

6. No Intermediate Plan Between GoGeek and Cloud Hosting: SiteGround doesn’t offer a middle-tier plan between their shared hosting (GoGeek) and cloud hosting options. If you need more resources but don’t want to go straight to cloud hosting, you might be out of luck.

7. Underwhelming Performance in Cloud Hosting Services: While SiteGround offers cloud hosting, its performance doesn’t always meet expectations compared to other cloud hosting providers like Cloudways or AWS.

8. Mixed User Experiences with Site Tools Interface: Although SiteGround’s Site Tools interface is generally easy to use, some users find it a bit clunky or harder to navigate than other hosting panels.

9. Support Often Pushes for Upgrades: SiteGround’s support team may sometimes push users to upgrade to higher plans, even if the current plan meets your needs. This can be frustrating if you’re just looking for simple help.

Siteground vs Cloudways – Conclusion

Cloudways vs SiteGround – Which One Should You Choose?

After trying both Cloudways and SiteGround for my own websites, I want to help you decide which one is better for your needs. Both are great hosting providers, but they each have their strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a simple breakdown to help you make a choice.

When to Choose Cloudways

If you want fast performance, the ability to scale your website as it grows, and a lot of flexibility, then Cloudways is a good choice. It gives you access to powerful cloud hosting options like DigitalOcean, AWS, and Google Cloud, which means your website can run faster and handle more traffic as your business grows. Plus, with Cloudways, you only pay for what you use, and there are no long-term contracts, which is great if you’re just starting or if you want to keep things flexible.

The only downside is that Cloudways can be a bit technical to set up at first. You might need some help with setting up your server or pointing your domain to their servers. But once you get the hang of it, it’s easy to manage, and their support team is really helpful if you need it.

When to Choose SiteGround

If you’re a beginner or want a user-friendly hosting service, SiteGround might be the better option. Their dashboard, called Site Tools, is simple to use, and they offer great customer support. Setting up WordPress or other websites is really easy, and they even include email hosting as part of their service, which saves you time.

However, SiteGround can get expensive when it’s time to renew, and they have CPU limits on their plans, which can slow down your website if you get a lot of traffic. Their cloud hosting service isn’t as powerful as Cloudways, so if you plan to grow your site quickly, it might not be the best option.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Pick Cloudways if you need better performance, want more flexibility, and plan to scale your site. It’s a good choice if you’re comfortable with a little tech setup and want a hosting solution that grows with your website.
  • Pick SiteGround if you’re a beginner or want something easy to use. It’s perfect for smaller websites or businesses that need a simple hosting solution with good customer support.

In the end, both hosting providers are good, but it all comes down to your specific needs. If you need power and scalability, go with Cloudways. If you want something easy and beginner-friendly, SiteGround might be the way to go. I hope this helps you make a choice!
